New Tohu

Tautoro School - New Tohu For A New Term

The bell rang. BING! Matua Eric Wihongi had arrived at Tautoro School with the new Tautoro School sign. Everyone was so excited to see the new sign. Everybody was so excited, but all hope was lost. The new sign was covered mysteriously with a wharaki.

The oldest girl in the school, Kohuroa Matene had the honour to unveil the sign. All cameras on the new sign just aiming at it like it a target. 3… 2… 1 click, click, click “wow” everyone gasped. Everyone liked the new sign, it had all the 12 hoe on it.

The person who carved the pretty cool master piece was Matua Eric Wihongi. The person who carved the last sign was his dad, so it must have been pretty special for him to carve the updated sign.

In conclusion it must have been a cool day for Tautoro School to receive a new look for the pou outside of the school and it must of been pretty honourable to carve the sign.

I will always remember the great sign of Tautoro with its 12 hoes surrounding it.  What a day Tautoro School had.

Time with whanau

Time with my whanau

“Swish” The ball hit the net while the Breakers were warming up “BEEP!” The buzzer yelled to start the game.

“Defence ,boom, boom ,boom defence, boom , boom, boom” Yelled the spectators, Swish the Crocs Scored. Cedric Jackson was the point guard and he done a good job.

Swish ,swish, swish shot after shot, I was getting excited then from out of nowhere the buzzer shouted it's the  end of the first quarter.

My dad walked over to get a snack to watch the game from the cafe as some people played a game on the court like who ever could chuck the ball closest to the middle wins and whoever wins gets a prize.

The second quarter had started. It's the Crocs ball and they missed it was a fast break and Charles Jackson was down the other end of the court so he got the pass and done a powered slam dunk. “Wow” I shouted and the crowd went wild I was amazed.

I like one of the Crocs players he  had Some pretty good hopes, I liked him Instantly his name was Jordair Jett and his number was 2. The Breakers were in the lead Tom Abercrombie shot a two pointer and swished it ,half time I thought as I was correct .

Cedric had 15 points Charles had 12 and Tom had 14, My dad and I went to get some food. Hot chips and a hot dog with a sprite. It was already the third quarter that was long, the reef blew his whistle “foul on Te rangi” yelled the spectator “swish, swish” they bought fell into the hoop as Charles chucked it in to Cedric. Cedric passed it to Corey Webster “swish tick, tick, tick, tick, BOOM!”said the spectator.

The game was nearly finished and the Crocs are catching up to the Breakers

It’s 76 74 the Breakers ball the Breakers get fouled, its 77 74 to the Breakers The Crocs shot a three and they missed rebound by Cedric and the Breakers win. “That was a good game” My dad said to me “yeah” I agreed as we walked out.

Making a sponge cake

“Boom boom” Room 4 and I slowly propelled on the long wooden deck to reach the destination Room 1 , my conscience zoomed ahead of me as I fell behind. I was a slow slug and something was holding me back .

We quickly speed walked to the farthest table and carefully put the ingredients on the table and started cracking and putting in the ingredients when cracking the egg on the
table Anthony and Konrad made it look pretty easy separating the white bits and the yellow egg yolk “you can't do it Hohepa let us do it”said Konrad, suddenly Hohepa dropped the yolk in the white bits “ooh” we all blasted at Hohepa ,His head dropped. Konrad went to the teacher and said “can we start again Whaea, can we have another egg”.

Cooking tool after cooking tool, but suddenly someone found the special cooking tool and egg beater “Yes!” we smiled with glee and we sped through the whites so fast we could have got a speeding ticket .

“Finally we're done” I thankfully whispered it was nice and fluffy I wanted to sleep on the cloudy mixture .Now we have to add white sugar the mixture stoad up ferm . In goes the yolks it dribbled out of the cup it was a yellow waterfall the mixture turned yellow . What a relief because that meant that what we did was right. The next step was to add the flour, this was Anthony’s job and he piled the flour on the mixture and he did an amazing job with it and no complaints. Finally we put the mixture in to the cake tin and then put the black cake tin in the oven “yes” we yelled when whaea Meri put the covered cake tin in the oven “off to lunch” I smiled .

This whakatauki means…. I tōku nei whakaaro, Ka mārama tēnei whakatauki ki ahau……..  This means when one house is sick ( the red house) and the other house is good (the green).
I think this means when my shooting is bad i really try to get the shot in therefore i try harder until I have practised lots.  Practise makes perfect.

Day light savings

Daylight savings. What is it?

By Jordan

The end of daylight savings is a time when you turn your clock back one hour so that means it's one hour earlier than normal time, for example 4:00pm goes back one hour and changes to 3:00pm.

There is also less sunshine it turns dark by 6:30pm to 7:00pm so it might be sunny by 6:00am or 6:30am.

I like when it's the end of daylight savings because I like it when it's dark and it is colder in the morning, it gets colder quicker.

Daylight savings started in 1927 by a man who farmed insects so he thought that the days were too short so he gave a proposal to the government to turn back the clocks one hour,so that's how daylight savings began.  Many farmers in Awarua did not turn their clocks back at first. They did not want to change their clocks.

Did you know New Zealand was one of the first countries to have added daylight savings, daylight savings ended on Sunday, April 3 by 3:00 AM and it starts back up on September 25, 2:00 AM on Sunday.
